Description Black and white (original) photograph depicting former 97 Orchard Street resident. David A. Confino (who later changed his last name to Coffield) age 17, photographed reading a book and smoking a pipe in a suit and tie. The photograph was taken on the roof of 175 East 108th Street in Harlem in the fall of 1922, probably around the time of Rosh Hashana. The building was owned by Abraham Confino and his family lived there at that time. Furniture was brought up to the roof to make it appear as if the photos were taken inside the house. David took the photographs of his other family members. The Confino family lived at 97 Orchard Street between 1913 and 1917.
